Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) are important members of the Primary Care workforce. They play an important role in promoting healthy lifestyles and assisting the wider Primary Care team to care for the local population.
There are many exciting training opportunities available within Primary Care that enable HCAs to tailor their career progression: learning new skills, developing areas of interest and supporting the Nursing Team with leadership and education roles.

Development Pathways
HCAs are encouraged to complete a Care Certificate upon starting in the role. HCAs are able to complete a variety of levels of certificates.
A HCA who has completed a level 3 certificate is able to expand their clinical skills and become an extended role HCA. An extended role HCA would often provide adult immunisations, IM injections, complete observations for chronic disease reviews, compression bandaging and more complex wound care once appropriate training and assessment of competence has been achieved.
