This course aims to inform GPs about the experiences of Black women with breast cancer. It explores the specific risk factors, challenges related to timely diagnosis, and the lived experience of Black women during the diagnosis process. The course will also address the social and cultural barriers to healthcare, using case studies to support GPs develop culturally sensitive and effective approaches to care.

ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder but our research project with GPs shows that many GPs have not received training on ADHD, putting critical barriers in access to care. 

In order to address this lack of training, a team at the University of Nottingham have co-developed and evaluated an online resource. This resource equips GPs with information about how to assess and recognise ADHD in children and adults and provides them with information on their role in the diagnosis and management process of ADHD within the context of primary care.

This free online training only takes 45 minutes and has been:

• Codeveloped with GPs
• accredited for CPD by the RCGP
• Translated in three languages
• Evaluated through a RCT and showed an increase in knowledge and confidence and a change in practice

Healthcare Staff and Suicide Awareness Training

Available from September 2025, this new e-learning course offers practical, evidence-based advice on how to recognise and support people in crisis, including those experiencing suicidal thoughts. The Healthcare Staff and Suicide Awareness Training is designed to raise awareness of suicide risk within the healthcare workforce and offer practical guidance on how to support someone who may be struggling. The course promotes compassionate understanding and encourages confidence in having potentially life-saving conversations.

Who is the training aimed at?

This training is suitable for anyone aged 16 and over who works in healthcare or has connections to those who do. While tailored to the healthcare context, it is open to all and does not require a log in. It aims to enable more people feel equipped to recognise when someone may be struggling and confident to offer support in a meaningful, informed way.

Opening Doors – a Suicide Prevention Learning Resource

NHS England has published animation on suicide prevention to support staff on how to recognise signs of suicidal distress in themselves and others, and the ways in which they can seek help.

Called ‘Opening Doors’, the resource has been developed by the authors of the Zero Suicide training, in partnership with healthcare staff who have been impacted by suicide.

The aim of this training is to:

• Raise awareness of suicide risk within healthcare colleagues.
• Enable staff to recognise signs of suicidal distress in themselves and others.
• Support healthcare staff to intervene if they are concerned that a colleague is suicidal, encourage help seeking behaviour and signpost to support.
• Challenge the stigma of seeking help within the healthcare community.

The training compliments the Suicide Prevention toolkit, which was included within the DHSC Suicide prevention strategy for England: 2023 to 2028.

The training is free to undertake and available on the NHS Learning Hub.

Lincolnshire County Council Suicide Prevention Toolkit

The Public Health team at LCC have developed a practical and user-friendly Suicide Prevention Toolkit in collaboration with Lincolnshire Suicide Prevention Lived Experience Forum and the Suicide Prevention Strategic Group. Supporting GP registration for people experiencing Homelessness Programme

This NHSE training programme has been developed to support GP practice staff and complement the new online GP registration service, to reduce the risk of worsening health inequalities for the homeless population.

People experiencing homelessness are entitled to be registered with a GP, whatever their immigration status. All practices are expected to have processes in place to demonstrate (e.g. practice policy, records of refusals) that it has not refused any registration unreasonably, including refusal on the grounds any patient was unable to provide proof of identity or address or any evidence of immigration status.
