Interprofessional Education

This section is for every clinician working in primary care, whether you are a GP, paramedic, pharmacist, OT, nurse, physio, GP registrar or something else.  Essentially, if you are seeing patients, hopefully you will find it useful.

The information in this section is designed to help increase your knowledge and confidence with common primary care conditions and manage patients to a high standard.  The topics start simple and then get more complicated for those of you who are aiming to build on existing knowledge or who need a greater challenge.

Choose from a tutorial, if you’re delivering a session to a range of professionals, or a role play if you need to keep everyone awake in that lull after lunch.  There is also an area for personal study and a range of webinars if you’re a lone wolf.

Disclaimer:  Please DON’T use the information in this section to replace clinical common sense.  Please DO use it alongside the latest local and national guidelines.

Any feedback is welcome!  Kate.berry3@nhs.net.

Tutorials

Need a topic for tutorial?  Lots of different abilities/levels of experience in the group?  These tutorials are designed for delivery to a range of healthcare professionals in a small group.  If you are facilitating the session then the tutor notes are designed for you. If you are being taught, then look at the healthcare professional notes.

Roleplay

Missed your calling as an actor?  These roleplays are designed for 2 people or more.  One person is the healthcare professional, one the patient and there is a guide for anyone watching who is providing feedback.  Your audience can be as big as you like!

Personal Study

Got 15 minutes to kill?  No-one free to teach you?  Here are some short topics for personal study.

ADHD GP Training Resource – Dr Blandine French

ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder but our research project with GPs shows that many GPs have not received training on ADHD, putting critical barriers in access to care.

In order to address this lack of training, we have co-developed and evaluated an online resource. This resource equips GPs with information about how to assess and recognise ADHD in children and adults and provides them with information on their role in the diagnosis and management process of ADHD within the context of primary care.

This free online training only takes 45 minutes and has been:

  • Codeveloped with GPs
  • accredited for CPD by the RCGP
  • Translated in three languages
  • Evaluated through a RCT and showed an increase in knowledge and confidence and a change in practice

The training can be accessed for free on:

https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/helmopen/rlos/practice-learning/mental-health/adhd/

More information on the project (including publications) can be found on:
